Abstract:

Reservoir modeling and simulation are key aspects for understanding the reservoir behavior and best plan field management and operations. However, building a reservoir model and updating it during the life of an asset can be a time-consuming process – there is a mismatch between operations times and modeling times. Also, one must consider reservoir uncertainties, which is even more critical as we work with increasingly complex reservoirs where data is not always largely available. Building an ensemble of models that captures the full range of uncertainties is hence more and more essential to ensure one can make informed decisions and minimize risks. Cloud scalability and data science offer tools that allow to drastically improve reservoir modeling and simulation workflows. Large ensembles can be modeled efficiently and updated smoothly aiming for an evergreen reservoir model. In this talk I will review reservoir modeling and simulation workflows and present a couple of solutions that can ease the modeling experience and increase the quality and efficiency of decisions impacting field management and operations.

Bio: Flora Marques is a Reservoir Engineer currently working as Reservoir Engineering Marketing Manager for Schlumberger in London UK. She was previously the Reservoir Engineering and Planning Business Owner for Brazil and Latin America South, based in Rio de Janeiro since January 2019. She holds both an engineering masters degree from Ecole des Mines de Paris and a business masters degree in energy economics and geopolitics from the Paris School of International Affairs. Before moving to Rio de Janeiro, she worked in the Simulation Center of Excellence in Abingdon UK, where she was part of the reservoir engineering solutions group, working on consulting projects, delivering trainings and supporting customers worldwide. There she also worked initially as a Quality Assurance Engineer and Product Analyst for reservoir engineering software and simulators.
