SPE Brazil Section is honored to host a talk with David Kaplan on the lesssons learned throughout the history of space exploration at NASA with the O&G industry. Beginning in 2016 NASA, has been working in partnership with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) in order to put together a Probabilistic Risk Assessment guideline focused on Oil and Gas facilities and operations.

David Kaplan is a leader at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) with more than 30 years of experience in aerospace engineering and management.  He has been a Project Manager for Mars hardware, a Space Shuttle flight controller, and managed the crew health care equipment on the International Space Station.  Most recently, Mr. Kaplan served as Chief of the Quality Division at JSC.  Currently, Mr. Kaplan is involved in assessing the applicability of NASA quantitative risk management techniques to the Oil & Gas Industry.
