“Sustainability in Action – bringing it home, making it real!”

       

Speaker: Linda A. Battalora, Colorado School of Mines

 

Abstract: 

Sustainability is a balance of economic growth, social development, and environmental protection.  The Oil and Gas industry is successfully implementing Sustainability practices in each phase of the project lifecycle but what new business models and partnerships are needed to further integrate Sustainability in technology and operations? This presentation is designed to raise awareness about the universal commitment to Sustainability, corporate prioritization and initiatives, key topics underpinning Sustainability, examples of Sustainability projects in action, and emerging opportunities.

 

Biography: 

Dr. Linda A. Battalora is a Teaching Professor in the Petroleum Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines), a Payne Institute for Earth Resources Faculty Fellow and a Shultz Humanitarian Engineering Fellow. She has BS and MS degrees in Petroleum Engineering from Mines, a JD degree from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law, and a PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering from Mines.  Prior to joining the Faculty at Mines, she served in various roles in the oil and gas industry including operations engineer, production engineer, attorney, and international negotiator for oil and gas project development.  Linda serves as Chair of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Sustainable Development Technical Section and is a member of the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Sustainability Advisory Committee, the Production and Facilities Advisory Committee, the US Training Advisors Committee and the Women in Energy Committee.  She is a member of multiple other professional organizations including the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, American Society for Engineering Education, American Inns of Court, American Bar Association, and Colorado Bar Association.  Linda is a researcher with the Unconventional Natural Gas and Oil Institute and Cerner Corporation.  Her research areas include upstream and midstream energy issues, Sustainability in technology and operations, HSE, and the Circular Economy.  She is the recipient of the 2015 SPE Rocky Mountain North America Region Award for distinguished achievement by Petroleum Engineering Faculty and the 2014 Rocky Mountain North America Region Award for distinguished contribution to Petroleum Engineering in Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Social Responsibility.  In 2018, she received the SPE International Award of Distinguished Member.  In 2019, she received the SPE Rocky Mountain Regional Award for Sustainability and Stewardship in the Oil and Gas Industry.
